STOP, DROP AND ROLL *updated*

Not dancing step ok… *grin*

It’s all about Fire Safety Awareness Campaign - a 45 mins talk by the Public Fire Safety & Prevention Education Centre organized by our HR dept this morning.

Here’s the important safety tips during fire:

1. Test door for heat before opening
When you open doors leading to the fire area, you will be exposing yourself to the dangerous products of combustion that is heat, smoke, gases and flames.
If you are trapped in your room, never open your door before testing it for heat. What you need to do is to feel the knob of your door by using the back portion of your hand. If it feels hot, you need to find an alternative escape route. However, if the door does not feel hot, kneel down with your shoulders bracing against the door while opening it cautiously. The reason for this action is to protect you from the flames and smoke that usually occupy the upper spaces in your home during a fire.
If heat and smoke are seen entering, shut the door immediately and stuff items like towels, bed or blankets under your door as to prevent smoke and heat from entering.

2. Escaping through the window
If your main escape route is blocked by fire or smoke, your alternative escape is by using the window. Before opening the window, be certain that the door is shut. Likewise if you are trapped on the first floor, try escaping by dropping yourself down as safely as possible by using the window.
The correct procedure in doing this is to let your legs out of window first, then by clinging to the ledge of window, lower your body the full extent of your arms as to reduce the height of your drop and finally drop yourself down.
In addition, children can also be handed down, with the condition that there are people to receive them on the ground floor.

3. What should be done if trapped
If you are trapped on the second floor, you should not try to escape by dropping yourself from the window because the height of the window may cause serious injuries. Look for alternative means like stairways, verandas, trees, garage or as a last resort wait for the fire brigade to rescue you.
If you have a telephone, or handphone in your room, call the fire brigade or your nearest neighbor for assistance.
Inform them exactly where your location is. Be in a positive where rescuers can clearly see you, catch their attention by flashing a torch light, wave a white cloth or just shout for help.

4. If you are trapped in smoke
When fire occurs, buoyant hot air and smoke are generated rising into the atmosphere, while deadly gases sink. If your main escape route is smoke logged, and if there are no alternative escape routes, you have no choice but to use the main route for escaping. Under smoke logged conditions, it is important for you to crawl by placing your head within the safety zone which is between 30 to 60 cm above ground level where oxygen supply may be found.

5. If your cloth catches fire
If your cloth catches fire, you should use the stop, drop and roll method, that is to stay still, do not run because this will only fan the flames, next drop yourself to the ground, cover your face with both of your hands then roll until the flames are extinguished. The stop, drop and roll method has saved thousands of lives in the world and that is why you should teach your children this method. Next time, if you see someone’s clothes on fire, you can help them by using this method, or by using a wet gunny sack or blanket to extinguish the fire.

6. First aidFor first degree and second degree burns, do not apply ice water but run cool water over the burned area for 10-15 mins. This reduces pain and smarting while preventing further tissue damage. For third degree burns, cover the burn with non fluffy cloth. Wait for medical assistance. Lie victim down but do not remove clothing which may be attached to the burned skin.

Burns1. First degree burns – burns that only affect the outer later of the skin
2. Second degree burns – serious blistered skin that requires immediate medical treatment from experts
3. Third degree burns – more serious burns which involves internal issues and requires emergency treatment from medical experts.

Daddy, I'm scared!!

I've find it very the kiut. So, decided to share this clip with you all...

Don't worry, it's a very short one...

I guess my title above is what's the lil' boy wanted to speak out!

Don't ever dare to try it to Cucu/Baby Yon, or you will ended up trying to stop him from crying for half an hour - the min!! *faint*

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

Hey… I’ve mastered new skills!

*clapping hands*

Well done son!
Besar sdh si Cucu!” That was what my heart pondered when I saw him struggling to turn his body to master the grovel position.

Oppss… Who is Cucu?? Well, we decided to call Baby Yon as Cucu coz…

Since he cries a lot earlier on, we thought that the nick name given might not suit him. Yeah... sound nonsense kan? But, it happened to my nephew before ok. He too cried a lot before the parent (as advised by the grandparent) gave him a new nick name and things changed subsequently. Err… not sure how true is that.

Perhaps, it’s the physiology also lah!

Nevertheless, we still give it a try. That’s when we had Oray, Cucu &, Poyie in the list. *grin*

Oray – RAYyan, Cucu – the 1st cucu in my family, Poyie – Poyeye!

And we picked CUCU! ‘Yon’ still melekat among family though…

Well, after the ‘healing sessionduring our trip to Ranau, we can now bring Cucu hanging around shopping complex with no or perhaps less worries. *wink-wink*

Ok, back to his new skills… besides groveling, Cucu also learns holding! I think mom will soon have to cut her hair short to avoid kena tarik rambut oleh si Cucu. *notty smiles*

Can't wait to see his next skills... ^_^

CNY vs V-Day

While most of you guys are in the Valentine’s Day mood and posting entries about the BIG DAY for all LOVERS (nda kira la what kind of lover you are!!), I AM STILL in my CNY mood though it’s already the 4th day after CHAP GOH MEI… Maybe because I just got back from Sabah for my CNY celebration kan… *wink wink*

The second week in KK was quite free actually. Resting at home after jollying the 1st week. Luckily my Dad was kind enough to borrow me his Avanza, and that’s where we headed back to Beaufort again.

Beaufort is one of the most flooded areas in Sabah. But still water will be the main issue over here. Don’t be surprise to see all the houses with at least 2 water tanks for their water storage! Besides the water tanks, one will need a water pump as well. The best is to have the auto water pump which will cost ‘bout RM350-RM400. Without the water tank and water pump, here’s what happened…

Since we are only going back to Beaufort once or twice a year, we decided to buy the water pump later and only purchased a 450l water tank for the time being. Asal ada laa… *grin*

Next agenda after CNY celebration and family gathering… meeting up with old buddies… catching up with each other stories… cool!! Let the pics tell you who I met!

Me, Joceline and her Dylan

Azean and her Abdullah & me and my Yon yg start mengamuk!!
Me & Julie at the airport...
4 out of 7 member of 3B-1 residents. L-R : Just, Mia, Illa and Sab (More story at Mia's page)

That’s ‘bout it laa…

Ohh yaa... HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY to all of you... Get anything from your spouse or partner??? As for me and hubby, only wishes will do... no flower, no candle light dinner, no bla bla bla... soooo not romantic huh??!! As long as we know that we have each other, we love each other... we trust each other... then, everyday can be Valentine's Day already.... kunun la!! LOL

CNY: KK / Beaufort / Kuala Penyu / Ranau

Back to KL… back to work… back to routine… *sigh*

The saddest part was NO angpao from company this year!!! *sigh sigh sigh* I was hoping for the extra $$$ actually…

“Let’s gamble (bukan main judi ba!!), come back to KK and start new life here.” Hubby came out with a sudden decision when we were in KK last week.

“Yes” ~ was my answer at first. However, after a long thought… perhaps we should just stay and struggle here in KL for few more years (at least 3 years) before going back to KK. By then, I think we should be able to clear off most of the current monthly commitments (debts la ba tu!!)… Nda lama lagi ba tu kan… *wink-wink*

My CNY story – Chronology of Event

23 Jan – Arrival at KK. Sikit lagi termiss flight. Counter has closed when we reached LCCT. Sh*t!! Who to blame?? The jammed and cabs were passenger-ed! (paham2 la ba kan…) Thanks god that we were allowed to check-in!

24 Jan – Baby Yon’s cukur rambut at his 3 mths old! Nasib dia nda mengamuk… I supposed to join my mom and others to the Night Market. Unfortunately, hujan pulak!

25 Jan – Went back to Beaufort. Had our ‘Makan Besar’ with mom’s families. Aunts were excited with Baby Yon companied. They were sooo worried when Baby Yon cried for half an hour which to us is normal. Terlampau lama tiada baby around baa in our family…

See la all the neneks who refuse to be called nenek... kerumum tgk cucu!

26 Jan (Day 1 CNY) – Due to bad weather, trip to Menumbok was cancelled. Rugi few red packets!! Only stayed at my next door aunt’s house while the rest sibuk gambling and main ‘ketam-ketam’.

Me & cousins

27 Jan (Day 2 CNY) – Went back to Kuala Penyu visiting mom’s Dad and stepmom which I called Ingkung and Nenek respectively. Didn’t go back to Kuala Penyu since 1999, if not mistaken. Ingkung was very happy to see his first cicit. He even prepared the ‘telur merah’ as a 'sogit'. Don’t ask me why coz I’m not sure either… hehehe… Baby Yon collected 6 packets of angpao over there.

L-R : Uncle Mon, Uncle Yoy, hubby, mom & Yon, Nenek, Me and Ingkung.

28 Jan – Back to KK. Gathered at my aunt’s house at Tg Aru.

29 Jan – Trip to Ranau!! Hubby was excited as he didn’t go back to his mom’s hometown since 1995!! Sama pulak kes kami!! So, he took the opportunity to visit his aunt and grandmom at Kg Lohan Ulu before we headed to Lohan Rest House. The place is ok la. You can choose either aircond or fan room, tv or no tv, single or mingle bedded… hehehehe… Check out the website for more pics or call for rates.

I didn’t enjoy the BBQ that nite. Appetite was totally gone!!! Why?? Baby Yon started crying when I left him for few sec when he dozed off. And things get worst when he cried like he never cries before. We were so worried and decided to bring him to my uncle’s cousin house who is also related to my hubby. Nasib baik, dekat jugak rumah dia. When we reached Uncle Ratinin’s house, there were few visitors waiting for their turn. A kid was sitting in front of Uncle Ratinin while he was doing the ‘healing’ session. Not sure how to put in words… Kira bomoh2 la ba jugak Uncle Ratinin ni… According to Uncle Ratinin, Baby Yon ‘keteguran’. Biasa la budak kecil kan… Besides, ‘something’ has been ‘following’ him for quite some time kunun. So, he gave Baby Yon a ‘jimat’ as his ‘protector’. Suprisingly, it works!! Baby Yon yang kuat nangis turns out to be kuat main pulak! Great improvement huh??!!

By the time we went back to the rest house, makanan sudah mau abis!! *sigh*

30 JanMandi manda at Poring! One of my uncle tercicir wallet la pulak! Poor him…

Mom's siblings minus late Uncle Alex and the their youngest sister.

31 Jan – Back to KK! Dropped by at Kundasang War Memorial - Established in 1962, this was one of the first memorials to commemorate the brave Australian and British Prisoners of War who died in Sandakan and during the infamous death marches to Ranau during World War II.

Family pic

Kesejukan ba c Baby Yon

Unfortunately, due to the cloudy weather, we missed the Mt. Kinabalu view!!! Sayangnya….

Phewww…is trying to ‘shortcut’ all stories actually… hehehe… To be continued yaa… penat sdh ni… *grin*
